from the airport to the school and arrived a little after 4 pm. I was surprised
how many students were just hanging out at the school. There are two computers
with internet for student use. The school stays open until about 6 and students
are welcome to stay until they close up for the night.

I took my placement test before I could get a tour of the school. There were 45
multiple-choice questions ranging from really easy (pronoun noun agreement) to
some complicated verb tenses.

The school is set up very nice. There is a security guard outside who greets
you every time you enter or walk by the school. He is really friendly and
remembers everyone’s name. On the bottom floor is the travel desk and a
bulletin board with all kinds of events and happenings around town. Up 1 flight
of stairs is the lounge area and the computers. The staff rooms are also here.
There is an open courtyard here with a few indoor classrooms around it. Most of
the classes are on the top floor. They have about 15 ‘classrooms’ set up
upstairs. It is really a rooftop deck with small tables, chairs, and dry erase
boards setup. Most of the students
prefer studying here because it has a great view of the volcanoes and is much cooler
than indoor classrooms.

Classes
I spent 2 hours studying with a mid intermediate class. They were learning past
perfect verbs and how to discuss things they have already done. A lot of class was spent with the teacher
asking questions and the students answering using the correct verb tense.

I was
there on a Friday so I got to see the Graduation ceremony that takes place each
week during the break. Each student who was leaving received a certificate and
had to give a short speech in Spanish. Most spoke of how much they learned and
how much they loved their teachers and would miss them.
