Business & Professional Language Programs For Job Market Edge

Studying abroad is a great way to set yourself apart when looking for a job, and it's not just for college students! There are a wealth of programs available for professionals of all ages to strengthen their language skills in specialized areas tailored to their business or profession.

For example, Spanish for Social Work is a specialized two-week seminar in Costa Rica that aims to provide social work professionals with hands-on experience and a greater working knowledge of the Latin American social situation. Participants engage in Spanish classes focusing on relevant professional vocabulary and deal with specific cultural issues. They also participate in professional conferences and specialized field visits. They return home with new skills and experiences that will profoundly affect their ability to successfully communicate with their Latin American clients. Not fluent in Spanish? Well it's your lucky day, because the minimum Spanish level needed to participate in this program is Low-Beginner.
Programs are offered in many different languages and the minimum language level varies by program. For example, Arabic for Media & Journalism and Italian for Fashion both require a High-Intermediate level of their respective languages, due to the highly specialized nature of the programs. Courses such as Arabic or French for Diplomatic Relations, and Chinese, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish for Specific Purposes are offered in Low- or Mid-Beginner language levels. The Specific Purposes courses are ideal for professionals who have a need to learn a language for purposes not currently offered through other specialized programs. Examples include marketing, advertising, or PR professionals.
