Travel Visas for Study Abroad

There is so much to prepare for your study abroad trip, it can be overwhelming! One very important item to look into is securing a travel visa. For United States citizens, some countries either do not require a visa or only if you are staying over 90 days in the country. However, there are also a number of countries that do require visas for all visits, or for visits longer than 30 days.

Countries that always require visas include: Bolivia, Brazil, China, Egypt, Jordan, Oman, and Russia. For visits longer than 30 days, the following require visas: Colombia, Honduras, Panama, Taiwan, and Thailand. Many European, Latin American, and some Asian countries, such as Spain, Portugal, Germany, Peru, Guatemala, Japan, and South Korea allow American visitors 90 days without a visa. There are few countries where no visa is required for American citizans, such as Costa Rica, Great Britain, and Canada. For complete regulations, make sure to check with the U.S. Department of State prior to your trip. For information on acquiring a visa, click here.
