First Days of Quito Junior Immersion

Teen_ecuador_masks Join Garrett F. on his Ecuadorian quest with the Quito Junior Immersion program

¡Hola! My name is Garrett and I’m from Albany, CA. I´m 17 years old and this is my first time studying abroad in another country. I am participating in the 4 week Amerispan teen program in Quito, Ecuador. I have only been in Quito for about three days yet the three days alone have been very exciting. My first impression of Quito was simply: "Wow". As I looked out the plane window flying in to the airport at ten o´clock at night, the majestic view of the vast land and mountains covered with lights amazed me. I had only seen a few pictures of Quito and the sheer size of the city was breath taking as the city dazzled amongst the dark night.

Honduras, Here I Come!

Honduras_beach By Lucie C., student at AmeriSpan's La Ceiba Spanish school

Hola! My name is Lucie, and I am from Austin, Texas, in the United States. I just turned eighteen and graduated from high school, and by "just," I literally mean that I boarded a plane for La Ceiba, Honduras a mere eight hours after receiving my diploma. I am so happy to be able to call Honduras my home for eight weeks this summer. It has been my dream for years to visit a foreign country, learn the language, and soak up the culture. I chose Honduras because it seemed like the perfect mesh of beautiful, relatively safe, not too far out of my budget, and very, very different from the United States! Honduras won't be foreign to me for long, though, because I'm learning quickly and am beginning to feel more and more Honduran every day.

Reflections on Coronado

Alajuela_laindia_sundae By La' India S., a Teen Delegate participating in AmeriSpan's Coronado Independent Teen program

My experience in Costa Rica is ending. This is my third week and the opportunity to come to this country was more than words can describe. Today I went to a wonderful cafe with a friend that we adore. The food is great and the service is excellent. I had the best hot chocolate I ever tasted and we shared a dish. I can`t quite remember what the dish was called, but there are no words to described the delicious taste. It was asparragus wrapped in ham with cheese all over the top. On the side there were the best vegetables I ever tasted. A three year old that would not dare touch a piece of broccoli would love them! Afterwards, for dessert, we ordered and shared a strawberry crepe. It had ice cream and whipped topping with fresh strawberries. Again, delicious beyond compare. Here, in Costa Rica, they continue to surprise me with their foods. None of the foods that I have had so far had been what I expected and they are always amazing. We have already made plans to come back to Costa Rica in 3 years. Puerto Viejo and Coronado will be our first stops.
