Sample Day of class, and despite not sleeping much the night before, and the mild 'terremoto' in my head, it was a pretty awesome lesson overall.
First Hour: 9ish-10:30ish: Class starts with the profesor (profe for short) asking us what we did last night, (Que cuentas?) and yesterday afternoon? Who went out, who is tired now, did you go anywhere special, do anything touristy and so on…but all in Spanish. We then went over our homework in pairs; reading through each other’s plans for the upcoming year and then sharing what we learned about our partner with the class.

It´s the beginning of week two and I had a great weekend. On Saturday, I went on one of the various school activites with some of my new friends. We all met at the school in the morning and rode a zebra-striped car into the jungle. At the head of a trail we suited up and then climbed back into the car for a quick ride up the mountain. We stopped at a spectacular view of the bay, and my friend Hector said that on clearer days one can see all the way to the islands across the bay.

Beginning my second week in Playa del Carmen – I am excited to continue with my Spanish lessons! We get a new teacher each week, and my new teacher pushes us really hard to speak only in spanish which makes a big difference.

I love to travel, but I don?t have a lot of money, and here are some tips that I?ve discovered by talking to locals and making some of my own mistakes.
1) Buy a 50% reduction card if you plan to travel around Lyon on the weekends are staying for longer than three weeks. The cards cost 20 Euros, but they knock the price of the train in half for a lot of places in France: Avignon, Annecy, Chartreuse, etc. If you?re traveling with friends, just buy one card, and have the card holder?s name buy your tickets (but do pay them back!).

Well, I arrived. I´ve been here one week and I´m starting to get adjusted to things. For example, I´m starting to figure out the keyboard, which has buttons in different places. I still haven´t figured out how to make smiley faces, so my e-mails to my friends and family have the closest approxiamation I can come up with: :}.

Rather than sleeping in and relaxing or hitting the mountains to go snowboarding, I joined a group of other students from our school and hopped in a Van to explore two coastal cities, Vina del Mar and Valparaíso. So a mix of Rowdy Brazilians, culture-shocked gringos and one Australian, adventured through the weekend, exploring museums, beaches, hostels, restaurants, cityscapes, pubs and discotheques.
