Free Time in Lyon

Lyon_group2 By Ashley C., guest blogger studying French in Lyon, France

If you read my earlier blog about the Lyon school?s program, you?ll realize that even if you take the 30/hours a week Super Intensive course, you?ll be out of school by 3 PM. You?ll be so tired, you?ll be a walking zombie around 3 PM, so don?t worry too much about needing a plan everyday (you don?t). I do think I could have used my time better during my first few weeks here if only I?d known how to use my time better. Thus, my blog about time management!

Adjustment to Costa Rican Life

Heredia_Intercultura_hammock By Jennie M., guest blogger studying Spanish in Heredia, Costa Rica

My first two weeks in Costa Rica have honestly been challenging.  Generally, it does take me some time to adjust to new routines, but doing it while taking intensive language classes in another country can be even more difficult. From what I have learned, here are a few things to keep in mind as you prepare for and begin your language immersion program.

1)  Bring things that remind you of home.  All of the guidebooks and AmeriSpan recommend bringing photos of family and friends to share with your host family.  These photos can also benefit you.  Take some time on a regular basis to look through the photos.

Bombing at Moscow Airport

Moscow_church Despite the fact that we prefer good news, sometimes events of a negative and downright scary nature occur, and AmeriSpan still wants its students to be informed. As you may have already heard in the news, there was a bombing at Domodedovo Airport in Moscow. Here is the BBC article on what happened: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-12268662

Luckily, we have received word from our Moscow partner school that everyone there is ok and that the school is running on schedule. They had this to say:

"We all – staff and students are fine, no trips were planned for this Monday. We are all shocked and saddened by this senseless attack on innocent people. We send our sincere condolences to all those who have suffered in this dreadful outrage.

We know from earlier attacks that this will not deter Moscovites from continuing their normal life.

While some flights into DME airport have been cancelled, the city is functioning normally and is as safe as it was before the attack."

MLK, Hispanics and The Claro Initiative

Time-mlk-man-of-year

A Free Spanish program for Healthcare professionals and first responders is being offered by Bilingual America. Ricardo González, the Executive Director, writes below how he hopes that his company's Claro initiative will have a positive impact on some of today's challenges, in the same way as Martin Luther King positively impacted America's challenges during his time.

Is Ricardo ambitious? Sure he is.  AmeriSpan's view is that people who participate in the Claro Initiative will make an impact on today's challenges and if enough people participate … who knows?  If you have been considering one of our Medical Spanish programs, Claro is a great pre/post program to further your Spanish skills.

MLK, Hispanics and The Claro Initiative by Ricardo González

Martin Luther King said, "We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there is such a thing a being too late."
